Catholic priest abducted by gunmen abduct Ekiti

The Parish Priest of Saint George’s Catholic Church Omu Ekiti in Oye Local Government, Reverend Father Michael Olofinlade has been abducted by unknown gunmen.

NigeriaCrime.com gathered that Reverend Olofinlade was abducted between Itaji and Ijelu Ekiti while returning from Ado Ekiti.

The Owajumu of Omu Ekiti, Oba Adeyeye Ogundeyi revealed that security agencies and local hunters have launched a manhunt for the abducted Reverend Father.

As of press time, the police is yet to respond to the incident.

It will be recalled that the Reverend Father of St. Peters and Catholic Church in Kafin Koro, Paikoro local government of Niger state has been killed by bandits and his corpse burnt in his room.

Similarly, his colleague, Father Collins was also shot by the bandits while trying to escape from the burning building.

The incident occurred early this morning along Daza road in Kafin-Koro’s local government area of the state.

NigeriaCrime.com gathered that the bandits had made several efforts to force their way into the residence of the Reverend Father but met brick walls and therefore resorted to setting the house ablaze while the Man of God was burnt.

A colleague of the Reverend Father identified as Father Collins while trying to escape from the burning building was shot in the shoulder.

The remains of Father Isaac were recovered while Father Collins was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The Police tactical teams attached to Kaffin-Koro Division were immediately drafted to the scene but the bandits had escaped before they arrived at the spot.

Spokesman of Niger State Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun who confirmed the ugly incident in a statement said the State Commissioner of Police Ogundele Ayodeji had dispatched a reinforcement team to the area adding that effort is ongoing to apprehend the assailants as investigation into the unfortunate attack has also commenced.

Meanwhile, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger state has condemned the gruesome killing of the Catholic Priest.

A statement issued by the CAN Chairman, Most Rev Bulus Dauwa Yohanna signed by his Media Aide while condemning the dastard act, condoles with the catholic diocese of Minna, Parishioners and the entire Christendom as well as the immediate family of the slain priest and prayed for the repose of his soul.

The CAN chairman called for investigations into the attacks adding that the culprits must be brought to book, saying“Enough of the attacks and wanton killings of innocent Nigeria citizens.”

Until his death, the deceased was the CAN Coordinator of Paikoro LGA, the Dean and Parish Priest of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church kaffinkoro in Minna Diocese.
