Court Remands Kogi Varsity Worker Over Alleged N4m Scam

A Chief Magistrates’ Court 3 in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State has remanded a 46-year-old staff of the Federal University Lokoja for an alleged fraud amounting to N4 million.

The accused, Kennedy Wilfred was remanded in Kabba Custodian Centre on Friday for allegedly committing the crime.

The defendant was brought before the court presided over by Mohammed Yakubu, by the Department of State Services.

Wilfred was accused of scamming students of money totaling N4m as school fees and issuing fake receipts to the students.

His fraudulent activities came to the limelight during the period of examinations when the school discovered that the students did not pay their fees.

The accused, charged on four-count of criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery, and forging documents pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Wilfred, who promised to help his victims generate Remita codes, was accused of duping 34 students of the institution.

The Chief Magistrate, Mohammed Yakubu, ordered the accused to be remanded at the Kabba Correctional Centre until February 6, 2023

In another news, seven persons have lost their lives in an accident that occurred at Gwachip village in the Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps sector commander, Kumar Tsukwan, the lone accident occurred when one of the tyres of a white Toyota Hiace burst.

Tsukwan explained that the vehicle was heading for Lagos from Katsina State when the accident occurred.

He added that those who lost their lives in the accident were two females and five males while others were severely injured.

He further stated that corpses had been deposited at the Suleja General Hospital while those injured were receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Gawu.
