Nigerian Police Arrest Lebanese For Reckless Driving

Police Command in Lagos State has arrested a middle-aged Lebanese, John Greg, who allegedly drove against traffic recklessly, crushed a pedestrian’s leg and tried to escape.

The command spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on his verified Twitter handle on Thursday.

According to Hundeyin, on May 4 at about 7.45 a.m., a middle-aged Lebanese by the name John Greg drove a Toyota 4Runner recklessly and against traffic on Sanusi Fafunwa Road, Victoria Island.

He said the suspect knocked down one female, Omotomi Akinsanya, which resulted in serious injuries to her leg.

The spokesman stated;

He sped off but was chased and arrested. Suspect in our custody. Vehicle impounded and in our station. Victim undergoing treatment at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). Victim’s family duly informed. Embassy of Lebanon duly informed. Investigation ongoing.

Responding to a comment stating that the Lebanese is guilty and there is no need for futher investigation, Hundeyin, said, “No one is guilty. Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty.”

“The court has the final say on that. We already took him for alcohol test. That result of that test will be presented in court. Also, is he a qualified driver etc.? So investigation is necessary,” he added.

Meanwhile, a Twitter user took to the microblogging platform to recount the incident occurred.

The Twitter user said the man was driving on a one way road, against traffic and on was on high speed around Sanusi Fafunwa Street, Victoria Island, causing people to run helter skelter.

He stressed that the Lebanese unfortunately drove into the victim and pushed her against the wall in full impact, causing the plate number of the car to fall off.

The Twitter user said the driver absconded instead of waiting to help the victim but was tracked down and apprehended by a passerby on a bike.
