Task Force and Okoda Riders Clashes At Idi Araba

Lagos State Environmental and Special Offenses (Enforcement) Unit, known as Task Force and the motorcycle rider popularly known as Okada rider had a clash at Idi-Araba axis of Lagos State.

The clash started after the Task force left with some of the riders’ bikes for going against the law. According to the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin he denied reports that the riders fought the security personnel. “The Taskforce went well prepared. He also said “The okada riders were just causing a scene after the Taskforce left with some of their impounded motorcycles.”

Meanwhile, the chaos extended to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) after some hoodlums invaded the hospital which caused panic amongst occupants.

The Lagos police command has assured the resident of safety as there wasn’t any casualty recorded at the time of the report.

Lagos state government last week has crushed another set of motorcycle also know as okada following the ban of okada riders from operating in six local governments’ areas – Ikeja, Eti-Osa, Lagos Island, Surulere, Apapa and Lagos Mainland Local Governments on the 1st of June 2022.

It was also said that the clash isn’t the first to happen with the okada riders and the task force. The clash also happened in Amuwo-Odofin and Mile 2 areas of Lagos.

According to the Chairman of Lagos State Task force, CSP Shola Jejeloye, “the laws are very clear for the Okada operators to see that their actions are in complete violation of the Transport reform laws of the State that “no two persons shall ride, drive or propel a motorcycle or the tricycle on a major Highway within the State, and any person in contravention of this provision commits an offense and will be prosecuted.”

He also stated that the agency has been carrying out the duties of crushing bikes in the past. This is to say that all impounded Okada are crushed after following the due process of Traffic Laws as enshrined in Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
