Three feared dead, 13 injured in Ogun accident

Three people have been feared dead while 13 others sustained varying degrees of injuries on Sunday, when a Mazda bus suffered tyre bursts at Onipepeye axis, along PMB Expressway, Ogun State.

NigeriaCrime.com heard that 16 passengers on board the white coloured Mazda bus, with registration number, APP 297 YC, travelling inward Abeokuta
when the incident happened at about 5.22. pm.

Three passengers including two male adults and a female were lost in the incident while three male adults including the driver and 10 female adults sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Recounting how the accident happened, one of the passengers, inside the bus revealed that the driver was driving at top speed when the accident occurred.”

The passenger further explained that the driver refuse to listen to reason when some passengers who were uncomfortable with his driving pattern cautioned him, he simply ignored them.”

Unfortunately, one of the rear tyres burst and the bus somersaulted, falling by its side.

The impact of the incident was said to have affected the free flow of traffic on the axis.

Confirming the accident, Babatunde Akinbiyi, Spokesperson, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) said three passengers, made up of 2 males and 1 female died in the unfortunate crash while 13 others made up of 5 male adults and 10 female adults were injured including the driver.

“While the rescue team of TRACE, Police, FRSC, and OGSAES commiserate with the families of the deceased, drivers are again admonished to eschew speeding, used tyres and ensure their vehicles are properly maintained before embarking on long-distance journeys.” He said.

Akinbiyi said the injured were rescued at State Hospital, Ijaiye, and Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta while the bodies were deposited at State Hospital Mortuary, Ijaiye.

“Police were contacted for further investigation while a towing vehicle was provided for the evacuation of the accident vehicle.

“Traffic was partially affected during and after the evacuation of the accident vehicle but normalcy had been restored.”

The Spokesperson said, “further investigation confirmed that the bus was coming from Redemption Camp and some of the passengers were among the congregation who partook in the just concluded 70th Convention tagged Perfect Jubilee.
