We Didn’t Invade Emefiele’s Office — DSS

The Department of State Security Services (DSS) has reacted to claims that its operatives invaded the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to arrest the apex bank’s Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

The security agency stated that the news making rounds about the intended arrest of Emefiele is false.

In a terse statement by the agency’s spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, DSS claimed that the report is misleading.

The statement reads, “The attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been drawn to the false news making the round that its operatives invaded the Central Bank of Nigeria and arrested its Governor, today 16/1/23.

“This is fake news and quite misleading.”

News of the intended arrest of the CBN boss by the secret police broke the internet on Monday.

It was reported that operatives of the DSS laid a siege at the headquarters of the apex bank, reportedly barring all staff members from gaining access to Emefiele’s office.

The embattled CBN governor has been having a running battle with DSS over alleged terrorism financing.

Earlier, DSS sought a court order to arrest Emefiele who has been out of the country for his annual leave.

However, the FCT High Court had in December 2022 barred the secret service from arresting, inviting, or detaining Emefiele.
