No fewer than 100 suspected political thugs were arrested in the Nsukka axis of Enugu State by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The development was conveyed to newsmen in Enugu on Saturday by the spokesperson of the corp in the state, CSC Danny Iwuchukwu.
Iwuchukwu stated that the operatives acted on a tip-off to carryout the operation, which was executed by a combined team of security operatives in the early hours of Saturday.
According to the spokesperson, the suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Police within the Nsukka axis.
He said that the arrest was made early in the morning of March 18, the Election Day, after an intelligent tip-off, at a popular hotel in Nsukka.

The security operatives recovered AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons, which included: hand axes, clubs and matchets from the political thugs.
On its part, the Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the development but added that the ongoing polls in the state have been free and fair so far.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the police in collaboration with sister security agencies had been pro-active concerning matters of security within the state.
He said, “We have acted swiftly on every security tip-off relayed to us.
“The security agencies have remained pro-active and decisive so that the peace-loving people of Enugu State will surely cast their votes in a violence-free and fair manner devoid of intimidation or fear.”
