11 traffic robbers, cultists arrested in Lagos

Eleven notorious suspected cultists terrorising Lagos and its environs were on Thursday paraded at the state police command.

Parading the suspects alongside cultists who have been terrorising Lagosians, on Thursday, at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja, spokesman for the command, Hudenyin said: the suspects were arrested in different parts of Lagos.

According to him the eight of the suspect arrested Ikorodu community are: Akinwale Abiodun, 31; Shola Salewa, Adewunmi Adewuyi 32; Ganinu Badamosi, 37; Mojeed Fasamatu 32; Abraham Abuba 39; Agoro Aria, 18 and Kehinde Sikiru 39 years.

Three other suspected cultists were arrested in Isolo area of Lagos. The suspects are Oluwatosin Adebimpe (31)Razak Agbadika( 39) and Sadiq Olamelekun (22).

Also the Command’s Tactical Unit’s operatives in the Badagry area of the state arrested five suspected cultists in the Magbon area of Badagry while one suspected cultist, Ademefun Jamiu was Abattoir area in Agege.

In Ijora Badia area, 11 traffic robbers were arrested. They were: Kazeem Ibrahim, 20; Sarka Isaika, 25; Kingsley, Toheeb, 19; Alamin 19, among others. They were reportedly caught in the act around ijora-Badia.

Recovered from the suspects were: five axes, two knives, 5 five locally-made Pistols, one locally-made double barrel gun, 22 live cartridges, two expended cartridges with 9. mm ammunition and a Toyota Hilux which was stolen from a car stand in Lagos and recovered in Kaduna.

In a related development, a 36-year-old deserter from the Police, Oluwaniyi Ijanusi and a member of his gang who have been parading as members of a Police Patrol team, to harass and extort Lagosians, have been arrested.

The arrest of the duo followed a video that went viral on social media where a man who identified himself as a lawyer lamented how one of his clients was accosted by Ijanusi and three members of his gang, who claimed to be policemen.

He alleged that Ijanusi and his gang withdrew N2.5 million from his client.

The gang, according to the lawyer in the 3 minutes 37 seconds video, usually drove in a tinted Highlander and other vehicles, claiming to be policemen but without identification cards.

According to him: “ They drove a client of mine for six hours. They got to a station and threatened to take the victim in but they didn’t. At the end of the day, they collected his phone. The victim had 2.5 million dollars in his account. They forced him at gunpoint to transfer the money to his own bureau de change who transferred the dollar to their contact.

They fleeced the victim of his account, left 10,000 naira for him and eventually dropped him at Obalende”

However, after the arrest of Ijanusi and a member of his gang, it was discovered they were not serving policemen, after all.
