2 Immigration Officers killed as gunmen abduct others in Sokoto

Two Immigration officers have been killed by suspected kidnappers at Mamman Suka village checkpoint of Gwadabawa local government area of Sokoto state.

Nigeriacrime.com gathered that gunmen suspected to be Kidnappers stormed the Immigration checkpoint point along Sokoto/ Illela road on Friday at around 7 pm shot 2 Immigration officers, and abducted others.

Mamman is one of the biggest weekly livestock Markets in the State situated along Sokoto/Illela road which brings together Nigerian business community and nationals from neighbouring Niger Republic.

It has been a long time since when motorists and commuters were warned to desist from flying Sokoto/Illela road, especially in late hours of the day.

Confirming the attack, the Public Relations Officer of Nigeria Immigration Service Illela Border Command Bello Mohammed said, “We are currently in hospital with the wounded.

Mohammed also said: We are sorting out things to know the degree of the attack and the number of casualties involved.”

In a related development,
abductors of a farmer, Banji Idowu, in Osun state, have demanded the sum of N15 million as ransom.

Idowu, a retired teacher, was kidnapped on Monday evening while working on his farm at Iregun, via Ilowa in Obokun local government area of the state.

Nigeriacrime.com gathered that the victim made a WhatsApp video call with his wife, who was not in the country, in the afternoon on the farm before the incident.

Findings revealed that the kidnappers also dropped a signed message on the farm, some bullets wrapped on leaves, to indicate that he was abducted by armed kidnappers.

A family source disclosed that the victim later in the evening used his phone which was initially not reachable to call and inform relatives that he had been kidnapped.

Later on Tuesday, according to the source, the kidnappers made contact and demanded N30 million as ransom. But as of Friday, the ransom has been reduced to N15 million.

It was gathered that local hunters and police were combing the forest to rescue the victim and arrest his abductors.

When contacted, Osun police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident, saying police operatives are in the forest in the area searching for the victim and his abductors.
