22-year-old Rapist, Robber Nabbed In Ondo

A 22 year-old suspected rapist and armed robber was on Thursday apprehended by personnel of the Ondo State Police Command.

The suspect, NIGERIACRIME learnt was nabbed in the Ondo East Local Government Area of the state.

The information was made available to journalists on Thursday in Akure, the state capital by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the suspect was arrested following a complaint of rape and armed robbery lodged at a police station by one of the rapist’s victims.

Narrating what transpired between the suspect and the victim, the police image maker said the suspected rapist and armed robber had pretended to be a good Samaritan, and volunteered to help one of his victims who was stranded.

However, the spokesperson said, “He robbed his victim of the sum of N102, 000, her phone and raped her at gunpoint on the way in an isolated area.

“He was later arrested by Police operatives of the Command on routine patrol.

“During interrogation, he confessed to have robbed many people of their belongings and valuables in the past.

“Four of his victims were contacted through their recovered phones and they all identified him to have attacked and robbed them of their belongings.

“The suspect will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigation.”

She said exhibits recovered from the suspect include a black unregistered TVS ladies motorcycle, one cut to size gun with bullets, six mobile phones and a POS machine.

In a separate development, the Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the killing of four persons and abduction of 18 others in Giyawa village, Goronyo Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesman of the Command, ASP Ahmed Rufai, who confirmed the incident, said the assailants also carted away valuables including livestock.

According to Rufai, seven of the abducted victims later escaped and returned to the community.

However, he disclosed that many residents have fled the community.

Rufai assured that operatives of the Command are on the trail of the assailants, adding that efforts are being made to ensure that normalcy is restored in the community.

Although the Police maintained that only 11 persons are still being held by the bandits, a source in the community alleged that over 30 persons were abducted.
