281 distressed Nigerian returnees arrive from, Libya

Within the last 24 hours 281 distressed Nigerians have been deported back to Nigeria.

The first set of 151 distressed Nigerians arrived Nigeria from Benqahi, Libya on Tuesday at 7:30 PM.

While the second set of 130 Stranded Nigerians returned from Tripoli, Libya on Wednesday at about 4:16 PM.

Nigeriacrime.com gathered that the Returnees were received by the Director General of the Agency, Alhaji Mustapha Habib Ahmed at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos on Tuesday.

The statistics of the Returnees after profiling indicates that 71 adult females including 2 with medical issues, 10 female children and 7 female infants were brought back through the Assisted Voluntary Repatriation by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

Also, the statistic shows that 54 adult males, 4 male children and 5 male infants were among the repatriated distressed Nigerians.

They arrived at the airport aboard Al Buraq Air Boeing 737-800 with registration number 5A-DMG at about 7:30 PM

Admonishing the returnees, the Director General who was represented by Mrs Adenike OgunKunle, a Chief Executive Officer, encouraged the Returnees to turn a new leaf by taking advantage of the second chance to make a meaningful life upon their safe arrival in the country.

The Director General enjoined youths to tread softly on the urge to rush out seeking greener pastures where it no longer exists
The NEMA Chief assured the Returnees of continuous of the Federal Government and other International partners in supporting them in the reintegration programme to enable them to recover fast.

Agencies such as Immigration Service, NAPTIP, Refugee Commission and FAAN are other stakeholders that participated in the exercise

In a related development another set of 130 Stranded Nigerians from Tripoli, Libya.

The Returnees landed at the airport aboard Al Buraq Air Boeing 737-800 with registration number 5A-DMG at about 4:16 pm

This set makes it the second batch of distressed Nigerians being assisted back to the country by the International Organisation for Migration within 24 hours making up a total of 281 repatriated back to the country.

Giving a breakdown of the statistics of the returnees, the Director General represented by Mrs Adenike Ibitayo, Chief Search and Rescue Officer disclosed that a total of 69 females were brought back including 62 adults and 7 children.

Also among the Returnees are 61 males which also included 58 adults, 1 child and 2 infants.
The Returnees left the country with a view of seeking greener pastures in the distressed Northern African country of Libya or trying to cross over to Europe.

It was learned that the conditions they met in Libya became unbearable while those that tried to cross over to Europe could not succeed and became stranded in Libya.

The International Organisation for Migration and the Nigerian Embassy in Libya rallied around to the aid of all those who expressed willingness to return to Nigeria.
Nigeria Immigration Service, NAPTIP, Refugee Commission and the Police are the stakeholders that participated in the exercise.
