29 victims of human trafficking rescued in Kebbi

At least 20 males, and 9 females including included a young lady on her way to Libya have been rescued by operatives attached to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Kebbi state command.

20 of the victims aged between 18 to 20 were intercepted along Kangiwa border, while the young lady who was heading to Libya was intercepted at Yauri town while others were rescued from other parts of the state.

NigeriaCrime.com gathered that upon interrogation the young lady who was heading to Libya revealed that she had agreed to meet with a certain person whose name she didn’t mention to train her on costume making in Libya.

According to the Kebbi State Commander of NAPTIP, Misbahu Iyya Kaura, the law which established NAPTIP empowers them to check, and investigate cases of human trafficking, child labour, and human molestation particularly housemaids who are usually the victims, adding that, the body is also permitted by law to handle cases of gender-based violence and promptly arraign and prosecute those caught.”

Kaura explained that within two weeks of existence of the office in Kebbi state, the command had rescued at least 20 males and 9 females which included a young lady on her way to Libya.

The 20 who are within 18 to 20 years of age were intercepted by the command’s operatives along Kangiwa border, while the young lady who was heading to Libya was intercepted at Yauri town, upon interrogation, she confessed to having agreed to meet with a certain person whose name she didn’t mention to train her on costumes making at Libya.

He disclose for the security of Nigerians, every citizen who intends to study abroad must get clearance from NAPTIP, parents and schools going for excursion in foreign countries are also not exempted from seeking clearance from various commands of NAPTIP across the country while calling on victims to speak up and report cases of human trafficking, he said those in their custody so far are under investigations.

He thanked Kebbi state government for the efforts made to ensure that the command takes off because then the office was zoned to Sokoto and therefore only exists there, but rampant cases of human trafficking, child labour and gender-based violence prompted the opening of the command in Kebbi.
