3 apprehended for motorcycle theft in Ogun State

Operatives attached to the Ogun State Police Command, on Monday, 5th of December 2022 arrested three members of a robbery syndicate, specialised in snatching motorcycles from their owners.

The suspects, identified as Daniel Akapo, 27 years, Idowu Ajao Sunday, 20 years and Dare Olusegun 24 years, were arrested following a distress call received by policemen attached to Ago Iwoye Divisional Headquarters.

NigeriaCrime.com learned that the victim, a motorcyclist, named Shefiu Moshood was attacked by two men who disguised as passengers and asked him to take them to Oke Erigba village on his motorcycle.

According to Shefiu Moshood, midway, into the trip, the two suspects suddenly stopped me along the road and told me that they were not going again.

The duo pretended as if they wanted to give me money only to bring out powdered grinded pepper and rubbed it on my eyes to enable them to snatch the motorcycle from me.”

It was while I was struggling with them, that a battle axe fell from one of the suspects’ bags. Immediately, I picked it up and attack them back.”

Confirming the arrest, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Police Command said that while the struggle was going on, the DPO Ago Iwoye Division, SP Noah Adekanye, arrived at the scene with his men and some OPC men.
“On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums took to their heels but they were hotly chased and the duo of Daniel Akapo and Idowu Ajao Sunday were apprehended.”

During interrogation, they confessed to the commission of the crime, and they informed the police that, it was one Dare Olusegun who asked them to go and snatch the motorcycle with the promise that he will help them to sell it somewhere in Ibadan.”

Their confession led to the arrest of the said Dare Olusegun, who also corroborated the statement of the two arrested suspects.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Departments for discreet investigation.
