Barely 72 hours after a seven-storey building collapsed in Banana Island area of the state, a three-storey building on Sunday morning collapsed at Ladipo Oluwole, GRA Apapa area.
Nigeriacrime.com learned that the three-storey building which is still under construction collapsed as a result of a thunderstrike orchestrated by heavy rains early on Sunday morning.
A Volunteer with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp in Ajeromi Ifelodun LCDA, Asimiyu Tiamiyu who was among the early callers at the scene said no casualty was recorded in the incident.
According to Tiamiyu, “All the workers at the site of the collapsed building had embarked on Sallah break, which is why no one was involved in the incident.
He noted that the state government must beam a searchlight on the recurring incident of collapsed buildings which had claimed many lives and property worth billions of Naira destroyed.”
Meanwhile, officials of Lagos State Building Control have sealed the collapsed Five storey building at Ladipo Oluwole, GRA Apapa area of Lagos State.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Government on Sunday said that a three-floor building under construction that partially collapsed on Ladipo Oluwole Street, Apapa ignored the stop work and seal-up orders of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, LASBCA and continued construction behind the scene.

Deputy Director, Public Affairs Ministry, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, “The collapse incident, which was flagged on the Physical Planning incident management platform on Sunday evening, triggered immediate preliminary enquiries that showed that officers of the States Building Control Agency had issued several contravention notices, stop work and seal up orders which the developer ignored and carried on construction without any recourse, whatsoever, to the authorities.”
“There has been no report of any casualty, while the site has been cordoned off and taken over by LASBCA.”
Sanusi noted that his particular incident, like similar others, reinforces the government’s repeated calls for responsible behaviour on the part of all stakeholders in the built environment.
Lagos State Government has immediately activated inquiries into the collapse to unravel the minute details and guide appropriate actions.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Building Control Agency LASBCA in its report disclosed that the collapsed building is an ongoing construction with a Provisional Development Permit for a Two (2) floor structure. No Authorization and building was not staged by LASBCA. Construction is at the third-floor roof level with block work completed {additional floor as against the Two floors Approved}.
The collapse of the frontal area of the 2nd floor occurred early hour of this morning, 23rd April 2023.
According to the agency, the property has been served the CN, STW & Seal Up Notices accordingly.
There was no casualty recorded on-site at the time of filing this report.
