4 dead, 7 injured as Zaria Mosque collapse

Four worshippers were on Friday killed during the late afternoon Asr prayers on Friday when part of the Central Mosque building near the Emir’s Palace collapsed in Zaria, Kaduna.

Nigeriacrime.com also learned that Seven others who sustained injuries during the tragic building collapse are receiving medical attention in hospitals.

According to reports, the Emir of Zazzau, Amb Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli had ordered that activities in the Mosque be suspended and expressed deep shock and sadness over the incident.

A witness said ” Four worshippers have died after the Zaria central mosque collapsed on Friday. Seven other people sustained injuries in the accident that occurred when the worshippers were observing prayers around 4 pm.”

The authorities were yet to issue any statement on the building collapse.

In a related development, three persons were reportedly killed while twelve others were injured following a violent clash between rival cult groups around the Osun-Osogbo ancient groove during the grand finale of the festival.

This is as the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams frowns at the invasion of the Osun groove by cultists causing insecurity to tarnish the international status of the festival.

The identity of the victims and two of the injured persons were yet ascertained at the time of filing this report, but hoodlums were seen brandishing dangerous weapons and disrupting activities creating panic among residents and tourists around Jaleyemi and Isale-Osun.

The Office of Hunters and Forest Security Service located along the road was also attacked and vandalised as personnel were also injured during the attack.

Chairman, of the Hunter group, Ahmed Nureni said three dead bodies were sighted around the groove while ten members of the group were also injured.

“We sighted three dead bodies, though, we don’t know their identities. Meanwhile, our office in Jaleyemi area was also vandalised and in the process, ten personnel were injured”, he said.
