4 Suspected Cultists killed In Rivers state gun Duel

Four suspected members of the dreaded Deygbam Cult were on Friday killed during a gun duel with police officers at Ndele, Emohua Local Government Area in Rivers State.

Nigeriacrime.com learned that two pump action guns, one locally made gun and empty cartridges of AK 47 were among the items found on the hoodlums.

Commissioner of Police, Rivers Command, CP Nwonyi Emeka, giving details on the development in Port Harcourt said the suspects were among a gang of Deygbam cultists that invaded Ndele community that fateful day.

CP Emeka said operatives at Rumuji Police Division with support from vigilante partners acting on credible intelligence confronted the cultists and in an ensuing gun duel, some of the suspects including Chinomezi, aka Nickaaro the Armourer and Chinza Orji Okunna, aka Okosa were gunned down.

CP Emeka alleged four of the cultists killed participated in the killing and beheading of four persons in an attack on the community on 30 May.

He said two pump action guns, one locally made gun and empty cartridges of AK 47 were among the items found on the hoodlums.

In a related development, renewed cult war has claimed at least two persons in Orhuwhorun community of Udu Local Government Area of Delta State as police intensify efforts towards apprehending the suspects.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe confirmed that two persons were killed in the recent clash.

According to him, “Two death, manhunt for the suspects are ongoing. For now, peace has been restored.” he said.

A source said members of a rival cult had earlier attacked and killed a member of the ‘Commissioner cult’ and in a retaliatory action, the latter group attacked and killed one John suspected member of the former group.

That John’s father on hearing about the killing of his son, collapsed and died in the process.

The incident made some residents desert their homes for fear of being hurt with the attacks and killings momentarily paralyzing commercial activities in the community.
