A yet-to-be-identified 41-year-old woman has been reportedly burnt to death in a fire outbreak in Somolu area of Lagos State.
NigeriaCrime.com learned that the incident occurred at about 3:18 am, at House 14, Bolaji Omupo Street, Somolu area of Lagos.
According to reports the inferno which affected seven rooms and four parlours of a storey building was in flames when men of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Isolo and Ilupeju Fire Stations arrived at the scene.
However, the operatives were able to contained and prevented the inferno from escalating to the ground floor and adjoining buildings.
In the course of the rescue operation, the male adult of about 50 years old was rescued to the hospital where he is responding to treatment while the female adult of about 41 years old was recovered and handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit, (SEHMU).
Confirming the incident, Adeseye Margaret, Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the incident to negligence, “Investigation, however, revealed negligence as the undercurrent cause that led to electrical upsurge when the power distribution company restored electricity to the area that ensued in the fire outbreak.”
She said the agency responded to another fire incident in Ikorodu area but there was no loss of life or injuries unlike that of Somolu.
“Similarly, Ikorodu Fire Station of the Agency attended another Fire outbreak at a social welfare building housing widows and orphans named Hope of God Grace opposite Oando Filling Station, Agbowa, lkorodu.
“The immediate mobilisation of Firefighters ensured a successful extinguishing of the Fire with no record of casualty.
“However, operations have since been concluded at both scenes.”
Recall that four persons were killed, while goods worth millions of naira were destroyed in a fire outbreak at the drug market popularly known as Ogbo Ogwu market, Onitsha, Anambra State.
More than twelve persons were also said to have sustained injuries in the fire, which affected the chemical /Surgical section of the market.
The cause of the fire outbreak could not be immediately ascertained, but one version linked the fire to a chemical explosion, which rocked one of the buildings in the market.
