11 persons were reportedly burnt beyond recognition in an auto crash that occurred at Soka Bridge in Ore, Odigbo council area of Ondo state on Sunday.
NigeriaCrime.com gathered that accident involved a trailer and a Marcopollo bus.
According to eyewitness Badejo, “The trailer passed through one way and in the process collided with the Marcopollo bus which was coming from the Benin highway.
The Federal Road Safety Corps, Unit Commander in Ore, Mr Sikiru Alonge, confirmed the crash.
Alonge said the incident had caused traffic gridlock along the route and all eleven persons were burnt beyond recognition.
According to him “The Fire has been extinguished, while the traffic is being controlled on the Benin/Lagos Lane.
He added that “Efforts are in top gear with other security agencies to remove crashed vehicles from the road.
In a related development, nine people have been confirmed dead in a fatal accident involving a truck and a commercial bus on Sunday in Ojuelegba, area of Lagos.
It was learned that the truck conveying a 20ft container landed on top of a commercial bus killing three adult males, three adult females, a girl child and a boy child.
According to an eyewitness who simply identified himself as Adebola, “the bus was picking up passengers when the truck lost control and fell over the side of the bridge.”
Unfortunately during the rescue operation by operatives, who removed the container from the commercial bus, only one woman survived. The others including the driver of the commercial bus died.”
Confirming the incident, Dr Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu Permanent Secretary Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA said that upon arrival at the scene, a truck conveying a 20ft container was found to have landed on top of a commercial bus.”
Explaining further, Oke-Osanyintolu disclosed that investigations revealed that the bus was picking up passengers when the truck lost control and fell over the side of the bridge.”
“After suspending the container load with the aid of the Agency’s forklift and cutting off the top of the bus with light rescue equipment, a single adult woman was extricated alive and taken to the trauma centre.”
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, a total of 9 fatalities were recovered comprising 7 adults and two children.
“The Agency’s heavy-duty Goliath and teams from Onipan and Cappa are on ground. The Agency’s Ambulance, LASG FIRE, FED FIRE, LASTMA and Nigeria Police have been working on this situation,” he added.
