Two Killed, Others Abducted As Bandits Attack Niger Town

Two people have been confirmed killed, while several others were kidnapped by heavily armed bandits who attacked a town in Niger State on Friday evening.

It was learnt that the kidnap victims were travelling in an open lorry, returning from the Friday Market in Rafi Local Government Area of the state.

NIGERIACRIME gathered that the ugly incident happened in Tashar Amale in Rafi LGA of the state.

Men, women and children were abducted during the attack and the lorry was also said to have been set ablaze after abducting the passengers.

At the time of going to press, the whereabouts of the passengers is yet unknown.

The State Governor, Abubakar Bello, who was said to be travelling from Minna, the state capital to Kontagora his hometown for the election, arrived the scene shortly after the bandits had left with the victims.

Meanwhile, the bandits were said to have also attacked a mosque in the town and disrupted the Jumma prayers by shooting at the worshippers

According to reports, some of the worshippers in the mosque sustained bullet wounds.

After they had attacked the mosque, the bandits then raided the town and some communities in the area during which they were shooting at anybody they came across.

Two residents were gunned down even as the villagers scampered for safety.

The incident was confirmed by the Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, who said they were yet to confirm the actual number of people abducted by the bandits.

He said, “There was actually an attack and abduction of passengers but we are yet to know the exact number of those killed and abducted.”
