Barely 72 hours after some irate Okada riders killed a policeman in the Oshodi area of Lagos, NIGERIACRIME learnt that another yet-to-be-identified Assistant Superintendent of Police was shot dead by gunmen on Thursday.
This most recent killing occurred along Ikorodu-Ijebu-Ode Road, in the Imota, Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
According to available information, the assailants stole two rifles from the late policemen as other policemen on duty ran for their lives.
A source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told newsmen that the assailants suddenly started shooting at the officers, who were carrying out an operation on the highway.
Furthermore, the source disclosed that the chaotic incident happened around 7.30pm on Thursday, adding that the situation caused tension and affected vehicular movements on the highway.

Quoting the source, “Yesterday (Thursday), armed men attacked some policemen at a point along the Ikorodu-Ijebu-Ode Road, Imota, and shot a policeman to death.
“We gathered that the policeman that died was an Assistant Superintendent of Police and the gunmen also stole two rifles. The policemen were on the highway when the gunmen attacked them around 7.30pm.”
One of the armed policemen who fled the scene of the crime has not been reached as of the time of filing this report. However, his other colleagues have reported back to the station.
Efforts to get a reaction from the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, proved abortive, as he had yet to respond to calls and a text message sent to his mobile phone as of the time of filing this report.
