A Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Iragbiji Osun, has ordered the remand of a 20-year-old herder, Umoru Baba and a 26-year-old driver, Afeez Babatunde to a correctional facility for allegedly causing the death of a couple and their child on Osun highway.
Nigeriacrime.com learned that the duo were arraigned before Iragbiji Magistrates’ Court, Osun State on Monday on seven counts bordering on illegal rearing of cow on a highway, causing the death of a couple and their child, damaging of property, dangerous driving, and driving without driver’s licenses.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Jacob Akintunde told the court that on May 2, 2023, around 8 pm, Umoru at Idi-Ogungun village in Iragbiji reared cattle on a public highway in a manner which was dangerous thereby causing the death of Oladapo Saheed, his pregnant wife, Kafayat and their child, Waris, who are from Idi-Ogun compound.
He stated further that Afeez on the same day who was in charge of the Toyota Camry with registration number ABJ 288KR drove dangerously without a driving license and caused the death of the couple and their child.
He noted that the suspects committed offenses contrary to and punishable under sections 16, 27, and 18 Laws of Osun State, 2002.
The two defendants pleaded not guilty to the offenses preferred against them as their counsel, Barrister Awokunle urged the court to admit them to bail on the most liberal term.
The presiding magistrate, D. O Ajiboye denied them bail as he ordered them to be remanded in Correctional Facility pending the time the counsel will file formal bail application as he adjourned the matter to June 6,2023.
