2 killed in ghastly accident as car vehicle plunge into River

The remains of two persons have been recovered during a search and rescue of a vehicle that plunged into a river in Ifetedo, Ife-North local government area of Osun State.

Nigeriacrime.com learned that the accident involving a Venza car with registration number BWR 909 SD, plunged into Etioni river along Ife-Ondo road on Wednesday evening.

Confirming the incident, the Spokesperson of the State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Agnes Ogungbemi stated that a Venza car plunged into the Etioni River along Ife-Ondo road on Wednesday evening.

She added that the vehicle with registration number BWR 909 SD had two occupants at the time of the accident on Wednesday evening.

According to Federal Road Safety Corps officer, the fatal crash was due to excessive speed resulting in the driver losing control of the vehicle.

“Local divers were invited to search for the vehicle after which a towing truck was used to recover it from the river and the two occupants.

“The relatives were at the scene at the time and the bodies were buried beside the river in line with the community tradition and the recovered vehicle was handed over to the police.

“The Osun Sector Commander of FRSC, CC Henry Benamaisia warns that motorists should desist from over speeding that could lead to loss of lives and properties, adding that road users must be safety conscious at all times and drive defensively”, she said.

In a related development, seven people were confirmed to have died, while fifteen others sustained varying degrees of injuries at Sekona on the Ogbomoso-Odo-Oba road in the Ogo Oluwa Local Government Area of Oyo State, following a road crash.

The crash, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, involved a commercial bus and a trailer.

Similarly, an Okada rider lost his life, after he ran into a stationary vehicle at Gbede, very close to Ote, on the Ogbomoso-Ilorin road in Surulere Local Government Area of the state.

The two sad events occurred on Sunday evening and Monday morning respectively.

According to eyewitness account, the victims were all male adults, and their corpses had been deposited at the Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital mortuary while the injured ones were taken to Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, for urgent medical attention.

A check on Monday revealed that the commercial bus with 21 passengers on board and the trailer were heading for the Northern part of the country before the incident occurred.

An eyewitness, who spoke with said: Seun Fakorede, said: “The accident occurred Sunday evening. The driver of the bus was trying to overtake the trailer at that sharp corner and suddenly he lost control and hit the trailer._

“All of a sudden, the bus veered off the road and somersaulted almost five times. Five people died immediately. Others were quickly rushed to the hospital by the road safety officials.

While confirming the two incidents, the Ogbomoso Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Isaac Adebayo, said: “The incident happened Sunday evening around 17:00 hours.”

“Five died immediately. My people have gone there this morning. I just confirmed from him that another person died at the hospital, making it six altogether.”

“Also this morning, my people have to go to another rescue on the Ilorin road. An Okada rider ran into a trailer again at Gbede, very close to Ote. He also died. That’s the information I’ve gotten so far,” he stated.
