8 arrested for theft, armed robbery in Niger state

The Niger State Police Command is currently investigating eight suspects for theft, armed robbery and receiving stolen property.

Nigeriacrime.com learned that a Ward Head in Paikoro local government area of Niger state and two others were arrested for theft and receiving stolen properties.

Similarly, five other suspected armed robbers who had been terrorising residents in various parts of Minna, the state capital have also been nabbed by the police in Minna and are presently being interrogated.

It was gathered that the Ward Head, Hussaini Mohammed, 45 years had been the receiver of property including Motorcycles stolen in different parts of the state in the past few months.

The two suspected robbers are Isah Umar, 20 years and Hussaini Ibrahim, 25 years.

Hussaini Ibrahim was arrested last month for being suspected to have stolen two Jincheng Motorcycles from Tudun-Fulani area of Minna.
After his arrest and during interrogation, he led the Police team to Isah Umar at Danduru village, Paiko for aiding in the theft of the motorcycles.

During interrogation, the two suspects confessed to the crime adding that they had earlier stolen about four other motorcycles which were kept with one Nafiu who is presently at large.

The suspect also confessed to have given the Motorcycles to one Junaidu who is also at large and eventually sold the same to the Ward Head, Hussaini Mohammed.
The State Police Command Spokesman, DSP Wasiu Abiodun while confirming the development said “the suspects have further confessed that they do sell the motorcycles at the rate of two hundred thousand Naira and one hundred and fifty thousand Naira to the Ward Head. “The receiver (Ward head) was later arrested last Saturday and recovered twenty-six motorcycle number plates and one fuel tank from him and the Ward Head has confessed that he do buy such motorcycles and usually removes the number plates before re-selling to prospective buyers,” the PPRO declared.

The case according to the Police is under further investigation at SCID Minna adding that all suspects will be arraigned in court for prosecution as soon as the investigation is concluded.

Meanwhile, five suspected armed robbers are now in Police net in Minna over a series of attacks on residents in parts of Minna, the state capital.

The suspects fully armed with dangerous weapons had last Sunday attacked a residence around Top Medical area of Tunga, Minna where two victims were injured and some money with other valuables carted away by the suspects.

In a swift reaction, on receipt of the DPO Tudun-Wada Division in Minna mobilized and led his patrol team and trailed the suspects to their hideout around Flamingo area, Maitumbi Minna.

Father of two of the suspects, Danjuma Ibrahim, 58 years was arrested along with his children and two other suspects. Other suspects were said to have taken to their heels on sighting the Police.

“Two of the suspects were arrested for receiving and concealing the stolen properties as well as harbouring the robbery suspects by admitting them to gain entrance to the house as early as 4 AM when they returned from the robbery scene,” the PPRO confirmed.

He said the robbery suspects had confessed to the crime and mentioned other robbery incidences the syndicate had carried out at different locations in Minna which include Mandela, Brighter, Maitumbi, David Mark road, Mobile quarters, and Farm center areas of Minna in the past two months.
