A lone armed man lurking around a popular hotel in Awka (name withheld) has been arrested by men of the Anambra State Police Command.
The gunman was speculated to have trailed a guest to the hotel, hoping to strike once the guest is leaving.
Disclosing this, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the man was seen lurking around the premises of the hotel, suspiciously when operatives who were on surveillance decided to accost him.
A search was conducted on him after surveillance operatives observed the man prowling around the premises.
Ikenga said, “One English-made pistol and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered from him.
“The suspect gave his name as Akuchieani Echezona, a resident of Ifite Awka. He was quickly disarmed, arrested and taken into custody.”
The police image maker added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has ordered State CID Awka to take over the case and investigate the source of the weapon as well as the gunman’s intention for going to a hotel armed.
He said the suspect will be arraigned in court at the conclusion of investigations.

Meanwhile, hundreds of residents of Ido local government area in Oyo Atate have lost property worth millions of naira to flood after a torrential rainfall on Friday.
It was gathered that the heavy rains of Friday evening affected and destroyed the means of livelihood of hundreds of residents in towns and villages of the local government.
Some of the affected areas are Omi Adio, Ido and Apata.
NIGERIACRIME learnt on Sunday that shops, vehicles and buildings worth millions of naira at Omi Adio market were affected while farmlands and fish ponds were also washed away by the torrential downpour.
One of the affected farmers, Festus Adesina told newsmen that no fewer than 80 fish farms were affected.
He lamented that he invested over N10m into his fish farming all of which were lost to the flood.
A trader who was also affected, Alhaja Alimot Adeleke appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to assist the victims, claiming she lost bags of garri, bags of cassava flowers and other foodstuff as a result of the flood.
Adeleke added that she used the shop to raise her three children after the demise of her husband.
“Now, where do I start from, everything is gone in the flood. Please help, please help. I am finished.”
