No fewer than 52 trafficked victims have been intercepted and rescued by men of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kebbi State command.
According to the Kebbi NIS Comptroller, Rabi Bashir Nuhu, the victims who were rescued from February last year have been handed over to the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
The comptroller made this known during a briefing to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the service, adding that upon her assumption of office in February last year, the command succeeded in intercepting many youths, mostly girls, that were being planned for trafficking to Libya through the Illela border in Sokoto State.
According to her, “We intercepted many illegal immigrants trying to move in and out of Nigeria through the Kebbi borders.”
In another news, the Jigawa State Police Command has arrested five suspected rapists, including one HIV patient who allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl in Jigawa State.

Police spokesman DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to newsmen in Dutse, the state capital.
He said the suspects were arrested on Friday at Yola Quaters, Jahun Local Government Area, after the victim’s father reported to the police that his 14-year-old daughter was raped while selling Awara.
Shiisu said, according to the investigation, one of the suspects, Aliyu Sani, lured the victim into the room of Rabiu Ibrahim, and they both had carnal knowledge of her.
He added that other suspects, Idris Haruna, Rabiu Inuwa, and Hussaini Mato, all of Jahun town, also engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim several times at different dates, places, and times.
The police spokesman said the suspects and the victim were taken to the Sexual Assault Referral Centre Dutse (SARC Dutse) for medical examination, where one of the suspects was confirmed HIV positive, and another tested positive for hepatitis.
He said the victim was, so far, negative but will be tested three months later after the incubation period of the disease to ascertain her health condition.
The suspects will be arraigned in court for possible prosecution, he stated.
