Anambra: Tension As Hoodlums Set Reps Member’s House Ablaze

The house of Paschal Agbodike, the member, representing Ihiala Constituency in the House of Representatives, has been set ablaze by some unknown hoodlums.

The residence of the lawmaker was attacked at about 1 am on Tuesday when the hoodlums started shooting sporadically before setting the compound located in Ubahi-Mbosi in Ihiala Local Government Area ablaze.

The house, consisting of a fully-furnished five-bedroom duplex with four living rooms and a kitchen was completely razed down but the lawmaker, who was was also the former deputy speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly confirmed that no life was lost.

Agbodike told newsmen on Tuesday that he was informed about the incident on the telephone, adding that he was in Abuja carrying out his legislative duties when the attack occurred

Furthermore, he said that the hoodlums had fled the scene before security operatives arrived.

He also did not state if he suspected anyone, or whether it was politically motivated.

The state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, saying that surveillance efforts are in place in the area.

“The area has been condoned and security operatives have been deployed in the area. There are ongoing surveillance efforts by the operatives.”

In another news, the Nigeria Army said troops of 1 Division have neutralised three bandits and recovered arms and other equipment in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

A statement by Musa Yahaya, acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 1 Division, Nigeria Army, said the troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, seven AK-47 magazines, and eight motorcycles during the operation.

According to the statement, three locally made magazines, six mobile phones, drugs and charms were also recovered

It said the General Officer Commanding, 1 Division, Nigerian Army, and Force Commander, Operation Whirl Punch, Maj Gen BA Alabi, has commended the successes recorded by the gallant troops and charged them to continue the tempo and aggressiveness until all criminal elements are completely eradicated.
