The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘D’, has seized contraband goods worth N1.17bn between January 30 and August 9, 2023.
This was made known by the Acting FOU Controller, Joseph Adelaja at a press conference in Bauchi.
The controller said, “during the period under review, the unit made a total of 88 seizures, prominent of which are 174,585 litres of petroleum products and nine sacks of pangolin scales and claws weighing 396.4kg.”
The unit seized 1,800 bags of sugar (50kg) each, 343 bags of fertilizer and 328 bags of 50kg foreign rice, among other things Adelaja listed.
According to him, the unit intercepted two birds (African crowned crane), one antelope, one piece of lion bone and a plastic container of lion fat.
The operatives, according to Adelaja, also intercepted 88 cartons of insecticides, 342 packs of foreign candy, 190 cartons of flavoured powdered drinks, 23 sacks of used shoes and 1,800 bags of sugar (50kg) each.

In another news, two passengers died on Wednesday when a commercial bus conveying them somersaulted along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Three others were injured in the accident when the driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle due to speeding
The vehicle moving towards Lagos reportedly veered off the road, somersaulted and ended in a ditch.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, disclosed that the accident occurred opposite Conoil filling station, near Sagamu Interchange.
The Mazda bus, marked LGB 739 XA, reportedly had 18 passengers on board, 13 of whom escaped unhurt.
According to Akinbiyi, one male and one female died, while a male and two females were injured in the incident that occurred around 4 pm.
He added that the injured victims were rescued to Idera Hospital, Sagamu, while the dead ones were taken to the morgue of the facility by the Federal Road Safety Corps.
Akinbiyi added that the vehicle had been removed from the ditch and taken to Sagamu Divisional Police Station.
While commiserating with the families of the victims, TRACE warned drivers to avoid speeding and dangerous driving in view of its attendant consequences.
