Jigawa: 50-year-old Gun Manufacturer Arrested

A 50-year-old suspected gun manufacturer has been nabbed by operatives of the Jigawa State Police Command in Ringim Local Government Area of the state.

This was made known by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPPRO), DSP Lawan Shiisu, who stated that the suspect was arrested on Nov. 16.

The police image maker said, “Policemen in Ringim in collaboration with a local vigilance group arrested the 50-year-old resident of Yandutsen Kawari village who specialised in fabricating firearms for miscreants.’’

In addition, Shiisu noted that a search of the suspect’s home yielded the discovery of a locally-made pistol and two rifles.

Shiisu also revealed that the suspect admitted to manufacturing a large number of firearms and selling them to people he could not identify.

The police spokesman assured that the suspect would be arraigned once an investigation was completed.

Meanwhile, the Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Thursday averted a large-scale abduction orchestrated by suspected armed bandits near the permanent site of the Federal University, Dutsinma, in Dutsinma Local Government Area.

In a swift response, NSCDC operatives stationed at the university foiled the attempted abduction as armed bandits, riding on 10 motorcycles, targeted farmers working in nearby fields. While three women were rescued, the assailants managed to abduct two individuals from Yarrumfa Village.

The command’s spokesperson, DSC Hamisu Buhari, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Commandant Jamilu A. Indabawa, in the statement, emphasised the collaborative efforts among security agencies and local communities to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.

According to him, measures are being taken, including deploying advanced weaponry and forming a joint security team to fortify the university and its surroundings against future attacks.

NSCDC said it has bolstered its efforts to enhance border security and enforce directives on border closure. Recent operations have intercepted various items involved in transborder crimes, which were handed over to the Katsina Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for further action.

In a separate incident, NSCDC operatives thwarted a car theft attempt in Kangiwa, Daura LGA, and apprehended two suspects who confessed to trying to steal a vehicle from the Agric Department premises. The suspects have been charged in court following investigations, DSC Buhari disclosed.
