147 inmates granted bail in Kano

One hundred and forty-seven inmates in two Custodial Centers in the state have been granted bail by the Kano State Grand Khadi, Dr. Tijjani Ibrahim Yakasai.

Nigeriacrime.com learned that inmates were granted bail following a committee set up by the Grand Khadi comprising six judges and headed by the upper Sharia court, Judge Alhaji Sarki Yola.

Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer, Kano Command, SC Musbahu Lawan K/Nassarawa said the K/Nassarawa said the committee had a mandate to decongest the Custodial Centres and free those languishing in the Custodial centres and consider those with minor offences in the state.

According to him, “Sarki Yola urged the released inmates to be of good behaviour and shun any misconduct that may lead to recalling them back to Correctional facilities.

“The committee also promised to review the case of a Long-term amputee convict who stayed 18 years in custody without executing his sentence. The court had ordered for amputation of his left leg and right hand in its judgment.

“The Controller of Corrections Kano Suleiman Mohammed Inuwa thanked the Grand Khadi for decongesting the facilities in the state, and urged the released inmates to be of good behaviour and exemplary character to others,” K/Nassarawa stated.
