The Anambra State Police Command has pledged to provide adequate security during the Christmas and New Year celebrations in the state.
This was made known by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Aderemi Adeoye, gave the assurance in an interview he granted in Awka on Monday.
The police boss promised residents that the police would ensure that criminals do not exploit the security situation of the state to cause mayhem and disrupt the peace of the state during the annual celebrations.
“Measures on ground are adequate to guarantee the safety and security of everyone in Anambra; we are good to go, the people of Anambra will enjoy a peaceful Christmas and prosperous New Year celebrations.
“We will continue to fine-tune our strategy and deployment policy to ensure we are several steps ahead of those who are on the other side of the law.
“As a command, our aim is to provide adequate security for everyone to carry out their legitimate businesses and to live without let or hindrance or harassment,” he added.
According to him, the personnel are well motivated, and their morale is high to carry out their responsibilities.
“The enthusiasm is unprecedented, so I do not foresee any situation that will be beyond them to handle,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Kaduna Sector Command, says the death toll in the Kaduna-Abuja highway auto-crash has increased to 18, with 27 people injured.
Mr Kabir Nadabo, Sector Commander, confirmed the figure to newsmen.
The corps confirmed in the early hours of Sunday that 16 people perished and 27 were injured as a result of the tragedy.
According to Nadabo, the collision happened at 05:20 am on the highway near Audu Jangon hamlet.
He stated that the causes of the collision were speeding and overloading of cargo and passengers, which resulted in the high number of victims.
“Our investigation of the incident has revealed that 65 people were involved in the crash, 27 got injured and 18 were deceased,” Nadabo said.
According to him, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC has formed more formations across the country in recent years to ensure rapid response to road traffic crashes, particularly in critical corridors in the country.
