Men of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected robber during an operation in the Owode Onirin part of the state.
The development was conveyed in a terse statement posted on X by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, who added that a locally fabricated firearm was found with the suspect.
Hundeyin said the robbery suspects were five in number and were hovering around a broken truck when the police officers suspected something fishy and moved in on them.
The statement read, “Our diligent patrol officers from Owode Onirin Division noticed five young men surrounding a broken down truck. As the officers stopped to ascertain what was going on, the young men fled.
“One of them, Johnson Ogunsanya ‘m’ aged 31, was apprehended and found with a locally fabricated firearm. Ongoing investigation reveals it was a robbery in progress.”
In a separate development, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says no life was lost in the crash that occurred on Abuja-Keffi expressway.
The Corps Public Education Officer, CPEO, Deputy Corps Marshal Bisi Kazeem, revealed this in a statement in Abuja.
The crash occurred on December 22, at about 10 am, and some reports stated that several lives were lost and attributed the cause of the mishap to FRSC patrol operatives.
Kazeem, who commended the media for their watchdog roles, however, said it was important to explain the sensitive issue to avoid misrepresentation of facts and purveyance of misinformation.
“To begin with, against the media reports, claiming that several people were killed as a result of the crash, the Corps wishes to categorically state that no single motorist lost his or her life in the crash.
“Six motorists who sustained minor bruises were treated and discharged immediately at Federal Medical Centre, Keffi.
“The fact of the matter is that the operatives of the Corps were carrying out their legitimate duty with a Mobile Court operation on the said date, just before the Military check point, on the Abuja-Keffi expressway when the crash occurred.
“Unlike what was reported in the media, this gridlock was occasioned by motorists who out of fear of being apprehended, and tried in the Court, decided to park far from the scene of the Mobile Court,” he said.
