Police rescue six kidnap victims in Katsina

The Katsina police command says its operatives have rescued six kidnap victims at Unguwan Dako, Tandama village in Danja LGA of the state.

Gambo Isah, police spokesman in the state, announced the development in a statement on Sunday.

Isah said the police, acting on credible intelligence, raided a hideout for bandits located at Tandama village, around 5:30 am on Saturday and rescued the abducted persons.

He identified the abductees as Garba Dan-Mallam, Rabiu Idris, and Abba Samaila — all of Unguwar Nuhu LGA — as well as Yunusa Sani, Ishaq Yakub, and Danjuma Samaila — of Layin Sani village, Kafur.

The police spokesman added that in a separate operation carried out by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), eight suspected bandits, including one Abdulkarim Faca-Faca, identified as a leader of the bandits, were killed during a raid.

“This morning, in the same area, our operatives embarked on mop-up operation as the terrorists fled, but all their rustled cows perished as many escaped with bullet wounds,” he said.

Recently, gunmen attacked a bus belonging to the Katsina State Tranport Authority (KSTA), resulting in the death of Nasir Yusha’u, driver of the bus.

Although, passengers on board the vehicle were unhurt,  the gunmen went away with belongings of the travellers.

Also, on July 6, Aminu Umar, an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) and commander of Dutsinma area in Katsina state, was killed by gunmen.

Umar had led a raid on the hideout of bandits in a forest in the state, when he was killed alongside another officer.
