8 killed in fatal motor accident

Reight people have been reportedly killed in a fatal motor accident while two others sustained severe injury in a fatal accident that happened along Lamingo road in Jos, Plateau State.

The accident which occurred late afternoon involved a Toyota Hiace bus and a Honda Pilot SUV according to eyewitness accounts was caused by overspeeding by one of the drivers.

NigeriaCrime.com gathered that ten people were on board the two vehicles when the accident occurred. Unfortunately, three adult males, four adult females and one child died before they could be rescued while two sustained injuries.

The two injured were taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) by an FRSC Rescue Team for medical attention, while the corpses of the deceased were deposited at the old JUTH.

Confirming the incident, the Public Enlightenment Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC in Plateau State, RC Peter Longsan, said the incident which occurred at about 3.10 pm was due to an overspeeding by one of the drivers.

According to him, “The crash involved two vehicles, a Toyota Hiace bus and a Honda Pilot jeep. 10 people who were involved were all onboard, out of which eight died (three adult males, four adult females and one child) while two sustained injuries. The two injured were taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) by an FRSC Rescue Team for medical attention, while the corpses of the deceased were deposited at the old JUTH.

“The unfortunate incident happened as a result of excessive speed by one of the drivers, which led to the loss of control and resulted in the head-on collision of the two vehicles. FRSC advises motorists to maintain a safe speed, as excessive speed accounts for most deaths and serious injuries whenever road traffic crash occurs. They are further advised to ensure the installation of speed limiting devices on their vehicles and ensure proper maintenance of their vehicles.”

In a related development, about seven persons have been killed in three communities of Takai, Kunet and Kulias of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State by armed men who invaded the communities within less than a week.

The latest invasion saw the killing of the Ward Head and three others in the Kulias community even as yet to be confirmed number of people were injured as the gunmen shot sporadically.

A Member representing Mangu/Bokkos federal constituency, Engr. Solomon Maren who confirmed the incident described it as a crime against humanity.

Three communities in Bokkos local government area were attacked this week, and seven persons were gruesomely killed including community leaders. This is another attempt by these wicked groups to set the State ablaze. The increasing waves of attack on citizens unprovoked are barbaric.”

He called on security agencies to “swift into action and apprehend those behind the attacks,” and appealed to “the State Government, the Police and Operation Safe heaven to step up security in Bokkos Local Government and bring the attackers to face the wrath of the law. The citizens deserve a better security condition.”
