A landlady, identified as Cecilia Idowu, has appeared before an Ondo State Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Akure, the state capital over accusations that she killed one of her tenants, Stephen Haruna, and dumped his remains in a well.
According to the police prosecutor in charge of the case, Mr Simon Wada, the incident occurred on Oke-Igbala Street, Oge, Okeagbe, Akoko, Akoko North-West Local Government Area of the state.
Wada said the landlady, who is 55-year-old is in court on two counts bordering on conspiracy and murder.
He explained that an investigation by the police revealed that the suspect first gave Mr Haruna portions of ‘palm oil’ to drink, thereby resulting in his death.
“My Lord, the woman (landlady) and the deceased were the only occupants of the house and she confessed to seeing him when he returned home by 10:00 p.m.

“A calabash filled with palm oil was found in the woman’s apartment,” the police prosecutor told the court.
He also informed the court that after the death of the victim, the defendant invited some people to assist her to throw his corpse in a well in her compound.
Mr Wada added that the corpse of the deceased was exhumed from the well after the suspect pointed to where his body was deposited.
Wada said the offences contravened sections 516 and 316 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2022.
The prosecutor, in an application, urged the court to remand the defendant in the Olokuta Custodial Centre, Akure, pending the issuance of advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
But the defence counsel, A. Adedire, prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him to file a counter affidavit to the application sought by the prosecutor.
The Chief Magistrate, Musa Al-Yunnus, adjourned the case till October 31, 2022, for ruling on the remand application.
