Two unemployed men appeared before an Upper Area Court, Karu, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, over allegations that they swindled a perfume seller of N11,000.
The two suspects, Mohammed Abubakar, aged 48, and Thompson Ola, aged 42, who are both from Karmajiji village, in Abuja, were brought before the judge, Hassan Mohammed on Monday.
According to the charge against the defendants by the police, the indulged in joint acts of cheating.
The Prosecution Counsel, Ade Adeyanju, told the court that sometime in September, the defendants walked into the complainant’s shop and collected three bottles of perfumes worth N11,000 with a promise to transfer the money electronically.
According to the prosecution counsel, the offence contravenes the provisions of sections 79 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Judge, Hassan Mohammed, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety each who must live within the court jurisdiction, and the court officer and police must verify their address.
Mohammed ordered that the sureties national ID card or driver’s License be kept in court.
He adjourned the case until December 22 for further hearing.
Meanwhile, four persons have sustained varying degrees of injuries after a car hit them at Forthright Junction along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday morning.
Eyewitnesses claim that the car, which was speeding swerved into the turning and in the process hit the victims.
The victims of the accident reportedly escaped death with different degrees of injuries and were immediately rushed to a hospital in Arepo.
