Bandits who invaded Pelachiroma village of Hawul Local government area of Borno state with locally made guns have killed a pregnant woman, Mrs Mary Barka.
NigeriaCrime.com gathered that the incident happened while the bandits attempted to kidnap Mr Barka Paul Sawa.
The suspects who have since been arrested by the Chairman of Hunters, Mohammed Shawulu Yohanna were handed over to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Hawul, Habila Lemaka.
According to Yohanna, leader of the vigilante/hunters, “the incident was reported a few days ago after the suspects attacked the village and attempted to kidnap their targets, but we’re not successful.
He regretted that a pregnant woman, Mary Barka was killed by the suspects who are now cooling off in the hands of police.
“Pelachiroma village of Hawul Local government area witnessed an attack by suspected bandits. I immediately mobilised my team to the village on that night and succeeded in arresting the four culprits who attempted to kidnap Mr Barka Paul Sawa, because, he (Sawa) has given them his cattle to rear for him.
“Unfortunately, the bandits succeeded in killing the wife of Sawa, Mrs Mary Barka Paul Sawa.
“Four of the suspects who confessed to the crime are Fulanis and I have since handed them to the DPO of Hawul, Habila Lemaka.
“The culprits are expected to be taken to the Borno State Police Command for further interrogation and prosecution,” Yohanna said.
Meanwhile, Samuel Aruwan, the state Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs Kaduna state has revealed that the Nigerian Air Force ( NAF) has killed several bandits and destroyed their camps in the latest round of operations.
According to him, “bandits’ camp was similarly struck with rockets and destroyed at Kofita and Kuyanbana Forest in Birnin Gwari LGA. Camps were also targeted and destroyed at Kuduru and Gonan Baturiya, and terrorists were neutralized about 4km west of Nabango.”
“While conducting armed surveillance around Karshi, Kerawa and Walawa axes of Igabi and Giwa LGAs, bandits were sighted nearly 6km southwest of Kerawa and promptly neutralised.”
“Close air support was provided to troops conducting clearance operations around Ligarma, Igabi LGA. During this mission, the house of a notorious bandit leader Alhaji Lawan was attacked and destroyed with rockets. The crews maintained a presence overhead as the ground troops cleared terrorists’ enclaves in the area.”
“Armed reconnaissance was conducted along the Kaduna-Abuja road and rail lines, with no suspicious activity, observed.
