EFCC Set To Auction Seized Properties

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday announced that it will begin to auction properties that were seized from people the agency had probed.

According to the Chairman of EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, the anti-graft agency is set to sell not less than 160 flats and apartments in 16 locations across the country.

This was made public by the EFCC boss while giving an account of the commission’s activities at the 62nd session of the State House Media Briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team at Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

Recall that the agency recently auctioned over 649 vehicles that were forfeited.

The Commission’s chairman, however, did not state the exact date for the exercise.

Bawa added that, unlike the public auction of vehicles, some occupants of some of the properties including agencies of government would be given the right of first refusal in the sale.

Bawa disclosed that the commission recorded 3615 convictions between January and December 9, 2022, which surpasses the equally impressive 2220 convictions posted in 2021.

He also disclosed that by the end of October this year, the EFCC recorded over N134 billion and $121 million in monetary recovery. This he said excluded the N354 billion it recovered from an oil company in unpaid royalties.

Furthermore, he said the commission recovered over N30 billion from the suspended Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris.

The EFCC is currently prosecuting the embattled AGF over alleged N109 billion fraud.

Bawa attributed the feat to the commitment of staff and the support of both the government and the judiciary.

The commission noted that the Thursday event was the second time Bawa would feature in the programme, having first appeared in the 11th edition of the series.
