A 27 years old woman, Mariam Ayila was on Tuesday, 20th of December 2022, arrested by men of Ogun state Police Command, for kidnapping of a 13 years old girl, Sofiat Yusau.
NigeriaCrime.com gathered that Mariam Ayila who had earlier kidnapped a young girl at Itele Ota area of Ogun state demanded the sum of N250,000 as ransom from Sofiat Yusau’s father after kidnapping her.
The suspect was arrested following a report lodged at Agbara Divisional Headquarters by Ismail Yusau, who reported that he sent his daughter on an errand to Agbara market at about 11 am of the day, only to receive a strange call some hours after from an unknown person, who informed him that his daughter has been kidnapped and that if he didn’t send the sum of N250,000 as ransom, he would never set his eyes on the girl again.
Based on the report, the DPO Agbara division, CSP Abiodun Salau, mobilised his Crack Detectives, who embarked on a technical and intelligence-based investigation.
Their efforts yielded positive results when the suspect was traced to her hideout in Atan Ota area, where she was promptly arrested and the little girl was rescued unhurt.
Confirming the arrest, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Police Command said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had earlier kidnapped a young girl in Itele Ota area on the 19th of December 2022, and ransom was paid to her before she released her victim.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be handed over to the Anti kidnapping unit of the state Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and prosecution.
