Few weeks after policemen attached to Ajiwe Divisional police killed a 31 year old man, another trigger happy police officer has shot dead a legal practitioner identified as Barrister Omobolanle Raheem.
NigeriaCrime.com learned that Omobolanle Raheem was shot dead on December 25th by a policeman attached to Ajiwe Divisional police on her way back from Xmas service at Ajah under bridge.
It was learned that Barr Omobolanle was sitting beside her husband who was driving the vehicle when the officer asked them to park.
While waiting for the vehicle in front to move so they can park properly, the police officer opened fore at a close range shooting straight into her chest.
Immediately the other police officers on duty realised what their colleague had done, they reportedly took to their heels abandoning the victim, her husband and four children who were witnessed the incident at the scene.
After a while, some police men came to the scene and moved her body to the mortuary in Yaba, without obtaining any consent from her family members.
Confirming the incident, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Police Public Relations Officer Lagos State Command said the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi has expressed heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Barrister Bolanle Raheem who was shot dead by a police officer in Ajah on Sunday, December 25, 2022.
On the instruction of the Commissioner of Police, the errant officer has since been taken into custody alongside his team members. The CP has equally directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba for in-depth investigation.
“This has become one too many, especially bearing in mind that a similar incident occurred at the same location less than three weeks ago. The condemnable incident is against the standard operating procedures (SOP) and rules of engagement of the Force, and to say the least is embarrassing.”
“Beyond this incident, the Nigeria Police Force will carry out a reappraisal of its rules of engagement in a bid to put an end to such avoidable ugly incidents.”
“The Lagos State Police Command hereby appeals to the good people and residents of Lagos State to remain calm as the Command is already in constant touch with the Nigerian Bar Association and other relevant stakeholders towards ensuring that justice totally prevails,” he added
Meanwhile, the inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has condemned the shooting and killing of Mrs Omobolanle Raheem, a lawyer who was allegedly shot and killed by a Policeman attached to Ajiwe Police Station, Ajah, Lagos State.
A statement by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi quoted the IGP, describing the incident as unfortunate and sad.
Consequently, the IGP has ordered speedy investigation and prosecution of the officers responsible for the ugly and unprofessional act, which doesn’t portray the Nigeria Police Standard Operating Procedure and core values.
In the same vein, the IGP commiserates with the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased as he prays for the repose of her soul.
He further assured the general public of justice in the case while he warned officers and men of the Force to be professional and people-oriented in the discharge of their duties.
He further charfee them to operate within the ambit of the law, as the Force’s leadership will not condone any inappropriate or unprofessional acts.
