7 burnt to death, others injured in Ogun accident

No fewer than seven persons were on Wednesday burnt to death, while seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a lone accident along Sagamu-Benin expressway.

NigeriaCrime.com gathered that a total of 15 persons were involved in the crash, seven were injured while seven persons were burnt beyond recognition.

According to Florence Okpe, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Public Education Officer, “the fatal crash occurred at about 3 pm along Ijebu-Ode expressway some metres after Odogbolu.

She said, that the lone accident involved a Mazda bus with registration number AGL886YD.

She added that the suspected causes of the lone crash were excessive speed and mechanical deficiency which resulted in a fire outbreak

Okpe said, the injured victims were taken to General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode and the burnt bodies were also deposited at the same hospital morgue

While commiserating with families of the victims, the Sector Commander, Umar advised motorists to shun excessive speed, especially “this period of high motorisation and also pay attention to vehicle routine checks to detect any fault on time.

In a related development operatives of the Lagos State, Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) rescued 12 fatal accident victims who were trapped inside a commercial bus that ran into a petrol tanker by Secretariat before Oando Filling Station inward Otedola Bridge, Lagos on Wednesday.

The accident which occurred around 5 pm today had the driver of a commercial bus (KJA 364 YA) and another 12 passengers trapped.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the commercial bus had a brake failure and ran into a tanker trailer while in motion by Otedola Bridge.

One of the accident victims died instantly while others were handed over to Medical personnel (Emergency Responders) who came to the accident scene by Lastma Officials.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Bolaji Oreagba however warned motorists particularly commercial bus drivers to always ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any journey within or outside the State.
