Frank Geng Quangrong, the Chinese national who is being tried for the murder of his Nigerian lover, on Wednesday revealed at the Kano High Court that he was jilted by the deceased Ummukulsum Sani Buhari after spending over N60 million on her.
Frank narrated this while testifying in defence of the ongoing trial before the court presided over by Justice Sanusi Ado Ma’aji.
He said while he was dating the deceased thinking that the relationship will lead to marriage, she left him to get married to another man who relocated her to Abuja, but along the line, their marriage crashed.
He said upon the divorce of the deceased, she returned to him to continue with their relationship, there and then she promised not to disappoint and cheat on him but to settle down with him for marriage.
He said he spent over N 60 million on the deceased by taking her out for dinner at different times at a restaurant in Bristol palace and a Chinese restaurant at Grand Central Hotel, bought 2 iPhones, and jewellery, setting up her shop among others running into millions of naira but their love began to go sour when she realized he was no longer spending lavishly on her and so she threatened him that she has found a new love who is a billionaire whom she sent his picture to him through Whatsapp.
According to him, “In June 2020, Ummukulsum got my phone number from her friend and she called me that she love me, and by the grace of God, she will marry me. At that time I was in Asaba Delta State. She invited me to come back to Kano and we started our relationship in July 2020.
“Ummukulsum started requesting money and I gave her all she wanted because I love her and don’t want to offend her and she promised to marry me.
“In February 2022, the deceased suddenly broke the promise and married someone else who relocated her to Abuja, I felt heartbroken and disappointed. She kept on calling me and chatting with me on Whatsapp and continue asking for money.
“Ummukulsum later told me she was divorced and asked me to come back to her and promised to marry me for the second time. When we met again, she apologized and promised not to disappoint or cheat me again.
“We always went out for lunch or dinner at Bristol place hotel and Chinese restaurant at Grand Central Hotel Kano, all their staff and General Manager know us together. Whenever I go to pick her up for a dinner at home her mum looks always happy. I spent over N60 million on the deceased, I transferred money to her through her GT Bank account. Sometimes, I ask my friends to send money to her.
“She asked for N18 million to set up her own business and N4 million to buy a house which she will give out for rent and I gave her the monies. During festivities such as Sallah of a friend’s wedding, she asked for clothes, gifts and other items and I never refused. I bought jewellery worth N5 million, house electrical appliances, N10 million to buy a car, N6 million for a University certificate and clothing materials among others worth millions of naira.
“I also went to Sokoto State three times to seek her hand in marriage from her guardians I gave them money as gift, and we bought biscuits, sweets and drinks. In 2021, I organized a birthday party for her in Bristol palace where I spent N780,000.
“On September 13th, 2022, Ummukulsum asked for money to continue her house project in Abuja and I told her I don’t have money, she was very angry with me and stopped receiving my calls. She taught I was broke and that was why I don’t spend much money on her like before and told me she has found a new love and was a billionaire. She send her new lover’s picture on my WhatsApp which provoked me,” Frank said.
