Anambra: Three Policemen Killed At Checkpoint

Gunmen have continued to unleash mayhem on security in Southeast, Nigeria as three police officers attached to the Anambra Command were killed on Thursday.

NIGERIACRIME gathered that the gunmen invaded a police checkpoint along the Umunze-Ihite Road, in the Orumba South Local Government Area of the state and opened fire on the officers carrying out their duties.

Three officers died immediately while the others fled after a gun duel with the gunmen that attacked in large numbers.

Speaking anonymously, a resident of the area disclosed that gunshots were fired in the air to disperse civilians.

The incident, according to the source, has caused panic in the area, forcing shop owners in the area to close their shops while people fled the market and others remained indoors for fear of another attack.

Ikenga described it as one of the highest prices security officers pay in serving their nation and expressed regret over the loss but said that the police in the state was not deterred by the attack.

“It is an unfortunate incident and it is part of the highest price security officers pay in serving the nation but the police command is not deterred by this development.
