A Nigerian Army personnel, Lance Corporal Nwobodo Chinonso, has reportedly killed three soldiers and himself at Forward Operations Base (FOB) Rabbah, Sokoto State.

According to reports available to NIGERIACRIME, one of the victims of Chinonso’s massacre was Lt Sam Oladapo, the Commander of the FOB Rabah.

The other victims are FOB Command Sergeant Major (CSM), Sgt. Iliyasu Inusa, and a private soldier, Attahiru Mohammed.

Reacting to the incident, the Nigerian Army, through its Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement on Monday, said it has instituted investigations into the case.

Nwachukwu said the reason for the barbaric act is unknown as the soldier shot himself after killing his colleagues, but added that the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division Nigerian Army, who also doubles as the Commander Joint Task Force Northwest Operation Hadarin, Daji Major General Godwin Mutkut and other senior officers have visited the location, and commiserated with troops.

“The authorities of the Nigerian Army are deeply concerned about this unusual and ugly development and have therefore instituted a Board of Inquiry (BOI) to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement added.

He said the findings of the investigations will help the Army curb a reoccurrence of such case in the future, while also urging the soldiers at the base to be their brother’s keepers and report any anomaly observed amongst their colleagues in order to forestall such incidents.
