Community Youths Kill Family Head In Cross River

Adie Ungwugwaye, the family head of Bebuatswan village in Obudu LGA, in Cross River State has been shot dead by some people said to be leaders of Ipong Youths Council on Sunday afternoon.

It was gathered that the young men, who were led by one Sunday Aniah, alleged the elders were responsible for the death of one youth, Richard Unimke from the same community.

NIGERIACRIME was informed that Aniah is the vice president of Ipong Youth Council and he came all the way from neighbouring Kakum village to lead the act.

It was learnt that on July 31, the deceased was riding his bike around his neighbourhood in Bebuatswan village but collided with a herd of cattle.

Due to the injuries sustained from the accident, Unimke was rushed to a nearby private hospital and was discharged after some days.

On getting home, his condition reportedly deteriorated and he was taken back to the same hospital on Sunday, where he reportedly died.

Sources in the community disclosed that young men, possibly friends to the deceased, said to be leaders of Ipong Youths Council from neighbouring Kakum village suspected that Unimke was killed diabolically.

It was reported that they hurriedly forced a family meeting of the elders to tell who was responsible.

According to the sources, at the family meeting was ongoing when the youth leaders allegedly shot the family head, Mr. Adie Ungwugwaye dead and fled.

Another source close to the deceased confirmed that both bodies have been deposited at a morgue in the community.

The source said, “Police have already visited the crime scene but no culprit has been arrested.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident, describing them as cultists.

She added that the state commissioner of police, Gyogon Grimah has directed that a tactical team comb the communities and fish out the perpetrators in no time.

“We have not made any arrests yet. But I can confirm that the state commissioner of police has directed that perpetrators who have been confirmed to be cultists, be smoked out.”
