Company Drags Staff To Court For Allegedly Stealing N10m

A company, the United Parcel Services, in the Gbagada area of Lagos State, has dragged one of its staff members, identified as Folarin Ajayi, before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ogba, in the Ikeja area of the state, for allegedly stealing N10m belonging to the company.

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Cletus Monjok, Ajayi was accused of committing the crime in the Meiran area of the state.

The prosecutor told the court that the offence committed is punishable under Section 287(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The suspect, who was arraigned before the court, is facing one-count bordering on theft preferred against him by the police.

The charge read, “That you, Folarin Ajayi, between 2021 to February 2023, at United Parcel Service, Gbagada, Lagos, within the Ikeja Magisterial District, did steal a cash of N10,000,000.00 only property of United Parcel Services and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 200 and punishable under Section 287 (3) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.”

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate E. Kubenje granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till April 5, 2023, for mention.

Meanwhile, Justice Ramon Oshodi of the Ikeja Special Offences Court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced a psychology graduate, Paul Dogun, to two years imprisonment for impersonating a United States military officer and engaging in an internet love scam.

The verdict was handed down to Dogun sequel to his plea bargain to an amended charge of impersonation.

The judge said the convict should serve the jail term at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

Justice Oshodi said, “I have listened to you and your lawyer’s allocutus but I do not agree that your guilty plea is timing.

“The only reason I am inclined to grant non-custodial is because I can see you are remorseful.

“I hereby sentence you to two years imprisonment.”
