Convoy Attack: Okorocha Appeals To Tinubu To End Imo Insecurity

A former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, on Monday, called on President Bola Tinubu to put an end to the menace of insecurity in the state.

This follows an attack launched on his convoy on Sunday by yet-to-be-identified gunmen at the Ihube community on the Okigwe-Enugu Expressway.

NIGERIACRIME gathered that a police officer attached to the ex-governor was killed during the attack on Sunday at Amaimo in the Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State,

Sources said the axis where the incident happened had experienced several cases of killing and kidnapping of travellers for ransoms in the past.

It was gathered that Okorocha was attending the birthday celebration of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the November 11 governorship election in Imo state, Samuel Anyanwu, when the attack took place.

Reacting, the former governor described the killing of the cop as “unfortunate”.

“The killings in Imo are underreported and we are not making that known to the federal government.

“I appeal to President Tinubu to come and help us. Daily, people are being killed. It is in our tradition to behead someone. We are losing lives every day,” he appealed.

Continuing, Okorocha said, “I am angry; I  am very angry. I am angry because I spent two days in Enugu and nothing happened to me but it is in my own state that the convoy released to me by the governor of Enugu State to attend the burial ceremony of Ihedioha’s mother at Mbaise was attacked and one policeman killed.

“What is happening in Imo State makes me angry. Many people who are running to govern Imo State are not capable but I have seen one man who the cap fits. When it is time I will speak.”

The politician further charged political leaders to unite and fix the problem, adding that he would write an open letter to Governor Hope Uzodimma.

One of the ex-governor’s aides, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the vehicles in the convoy, including a Sports Utility Vehicle, a bus and a Hilux, were shattered by bullets.

He said two other security agents were kidnapped by the attackers but were released the same day.
