An Ondo Magistrate Court has sentenced a 41-year-old tailor, Tajudeen Olajide, to three years imprisonment for assaulting a man, Olamiposi Oluwatobi.
It was gathered on December 10, 2021, Olajide was accused of punching Oluwatobi in the eye with a key.
The convict who was found guilty of the one-count charge of assault by the court.
The prosecutor, Sulaiman Abdulateef, told the court that the incident which occurred within the Crown Hospital axis in Akure, the state capital, caused bodily harm to the victim.
According to the prosecutor, Olajide committed the offence during a street fight.
It was learnt that the victim sustained an injury to the eye that resulted in total blindness.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
He was found guilty of the offence by the presiding magistrate, Tope Aladejana and subsequently sentenced him to three years imprisonment with the option of paying immediate damages of N700,000 to the victim.

Meanwhile, seven persons were reportedly burnt beyond recognition in an accident that occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan highway on Thursday.
The fatal crash occurred at 9:21 am, a few metres after the Saapade Bridge.
The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, said a total of 27 persons were involved in the crash, 25 of whom were male adults.
The FRSC spokesperson in Ogun, Florence Okpe, said 17 male adults and one female adult sustained injuries while “a total of seven persons were burnt beyond recognition.”
According to her, a Toyota Sienna, marked BWR762PV, and a Mazda bus, with registration number BDN18 LG, had a head-on collision and went up in flames.
Okpe blamed the driver of the Sienna bus for “excessive speed and route violation.”
According to her, the Sienna bus driver had driven against traffic, thereby colliding with the Mazda bus. “Unfortunately, there was a fire outbreak,” she stated.
Some of the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital in Ogere, while others were taken to Idera Hospital in Sagamu, she further disclosed.
It was learnt that the remains of the dead victims were deposited at the FOS morgue in Ipara.
