A couple, has been remanded by an Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, on Tuesday over allegations that they assaulted and raped their 19-year-old house help.
NIGERIACRIME learnt that Omolara Alashe, 36 and her husband, Ramoni Lateef, 40, are facing trial for alleged rape, assault, stealing and sexual assault.
The couple were said to reside in Igbonla, Ketu, Lagos State.
The police prosecutor, Insp Donjor Perezi, informed the court that the defendants committed the crimes at their residence sometime in March.
According to Perezi, the husband, being the first defendant, had sexual intercourse with their 19-year-old housekeeper, while wife, the second defendant, usually wakes the girl up at night, strips her naked and instructs her husband to rape the victim without her consent.
“Alashe beats the victim up and penetrated her vagina with her fingers till she started bleeding. She also denied the victim of her salaries and seized her GTB ATM card as well as her sim card.

“She also converted her salaries to her own personal use,” the prosecutor told the court, adding that “the case was reported to the police, leading to their arrest.”
The offences, Perezi said, contravened the provisions of Sections 260, 137, 287 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
According to findings, Section 260 stipulates life imprisonment, while 287 attracts three years jail term for stealing.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Tanimola, who did not take the plea of the defendants, ordered their remand at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending receipt of advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions.
Tanimola adjourned the case until June 8 for mention.
Meanwhile, bandits have released three of the remaining seven girls earlier abducted from the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, Kebbi State.
Recall that 96 students of the school were Kidnapped on June 17, 2021.
Since then, some of the abductees had been released in batches.
However, in a statement on Monday, the chairman of parents of the Abducted School Girls’ Forum, Malam Salim Kaoje, said that the newly released girls arrived Kebbi on Monday afternoon.
He mentioned those released as; Elizabeth Ogechi Nwafor, Esther Sunday and Aliya Abubakar.
According to him, they had paid an undisclosed amount of money to secure the release of the girls after they sold their properties and a fund raising that saw many Nigerians assisting the parents financially.
“Yes they released three of the school girls to us on Sunday evening. They are already with the State Government,” Kaoje said.
