The District Head of Langai, Umar Zarme have been abducted by gunmen in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State

Zarme was kidnapped shortly after observing the Isha’i prayers at a mosque in the community by armed men who laid ambush for the District Head.

One of his abductors joined him at the prayers which took place between 7.30 pm -8.00 pm.

NigeriaCrime.com learned that in the past one-month, armed men have unleashed terror in communities in the Pyem Chiefdom, creating pandemonium among residents.

A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that “after the prayers, the gunman followed the District Head behind, as the District Head got to a dark spot, the assailant shot in the air to alert his companion and scare people away. His accomplice rushed out of their hiding and took away the District Head. We are yet to hear from them and we do not know where he was taken to.”

In a related development, irate mob on Saturday night lynched a suspected thief at the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North local government area of the State.

It was gathered a suicide incident led to the arrest and subsequent lynching of the suspected thief.

According to an eyewitness Memuna Tanko in Eto Baba community, sometime ago someone bought another motorcycle for a vulcanizer in the area whose motorcycle was stolen. The new motorbike was also stolen causing the vulcanizer whom had become depressed to hang himself.

Angered by the death of the vulcaniser, some people in the community suspected the lynched victim for stealing the motorcycle due to his criminal activities. He wasn’t seen stealing the motorcycle but because the vulcanizer had taken his life, they caught the victim and beat him to death before setting his corpse ablaze,” Memuna added.

Confirming both incidents, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo said on the abduction of the District Head, our officers there responded swiftly but unfortunately, the victim had already been kidnapped. The DPO and the O/C of that outstation and some of our tactical team are in the bush, combing the area for possible rescue and if possible, arrest the suspects.”

On the mob attack, Alabo said something happened at Angwan Rukuba but I don’t have the details yet, I need to speak with the DPO.
