A former Minister of Information and the Zamfara Central senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Ikira Aliyu Bilbis, has been arrested been arrested by operatives of the state Police Command.
Bilbis was arrested alongside others in the early hours of Tuesday, November 29, 2022 for allegedly vandalising billboards belonging to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Confirming the arrest, the state secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi Zangina, said the arrest may not be unconnected with an allegation by the ruling party, the APC, of vandalising its billboards and other properties during the reception rally in honour of Dr. Dauda Lawal Dare.
According to him, a team of PDP lawyers have since been at the police headquarters in Gusau, where he has been determined to know the level of the case and action to be taken.
However, all efforts to get comments from the state police spokesman, S P Mohammed Shehu, proved abortive as he did not pick up his calls.

Meanwhile, the Zamfara chapter of the APC on Monday condemned the act of vandalism perpetrated on its members and people of the state by suspected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) thugs during its rally in the state on Sunday.
In a statement, the chairman of the party in the state, Alhaji Tukur Danfulani Maikatako, claimed the opposition PDP smuggled thugs from other states to join hands with their counterparts in the state to cause havoc.
Danfulani, therefore, called on the security agencies to arrest the perpetrators and their sponsors and bring them to book to serve as a deterrent to others.
“The perpetrators and their sponsors should be brought to book so that we can continue to enjoy the peace that is gradually returning to our state,” said Danfulani.
Danfulani stressed that this was the second time the opposition PDP was trying to cause unrest in the state by hiring some unscrupulous persons to attack innocent people and steal or destroy their properties anytime they were holding rallies in the state.
